Celebrating 10 Years of Unlock Drama: A Decade of Impact and Resilience

As the calendar page turns, we find ourselves commemorating a significant milestone – Unlock Drama is 10 years old today. A decade has passed since Rebecca Boden, our visionary founder, embarked on a mission to make applied theatre an accessible rehabilitation tool across the UK prison estate. From the early days of Rebecca working as a lone facilitator, we’ve grown into a dynamic organisation with a talented pool of facilitators, and we’ve proudly delivered projects in what will soon be 45 prisons.

Reflecting on our journey, it’s astounding to witness the evolution and the profound impact we’ve made in the field of applied theatre and rehabilitation. The belief that change is possible has been the driving force behind our approach, and seeing that belief come to life through our work has been nothing short of remarkable.

We’ve faced challenges, notably operating through a global pandemic and its lingering effects, which tested our resilience and commitment. Yet, it is precisely these trials that have showcased our team’s unwavering passion and the significant role Unlock Drama plays in some of society’s most challenging environments.

Our ten-year anniversary isn’t just about looking back; it’s a launchpad for the future. We’re marking this decade of impact with several exciting developments:

  • New Online Impact Measurement System: Now live, this cutting-edge platform will capture the essence of our contributions to rehabilitation, painting a clear picture of the tangible change we foster.
  • Restorative Justice Training: Rebecca is currently undergoing training that promises to infuse new perspectives and methodologies into our work, reaffirming our commitment to restorative practices.
  • Introduction of New Projects: With Rebecca’s training, we’re gearing up to introduce innovative projects that will continue to push the boundaries of what we can achieve.
  • New Partnerships: We’re on the cusp of beginning several new partnerships that encapsulate the excitement and potential of the times ahead.

As we celebrate this milestone, we do so with gratitude for our exceptional team, whose dedication and talent have been the cornerstone of our success. We’re eager to embrace the new chapters that lie ahead, with the same zeal and commitment that have brought us this far.

Here’s to ten years of Unlock Drama, to the differences we’ve made, and to the many more we will make as we step into the future with optimism and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of theatre.
